JACK BOGDANSKI
When people complain about local government wasting money on frills while letting basic services decay, one of the stock responses is the "pots of money" song. It goes something like this: "You see, the money we're wasting is in a special pot that can be spent only on frills. It can't be spent on essentials. So don't complain about the essentials being neglected -- this money can't be spent on them." It's especially galling when the people giving you this line are the same people who drew up the separate pots, or who have the power to pour their contents all into one big pot at any time, if they wanted to.

Another great excuse line is "That's not in our jurisdiction -- that's somebody else's jurisdiction." Just complain to Portland City Hall about the schools, the bridges, the lack of a decent mental health system, aircraft noise, or thinning bus service, and it won't be long before you hear, "We're not in charge of that. That's done by [the county, the school board, Tri-Met, etc.]."

GOP HAS THE ANSWER TO HEALTH CARE CRISIS
WASHINGTON (CAP) - Eager to recapture the edge in its ongoing battle with the administration over health care reform, congressional Republicans have unveiled their own version of the so-called public option that they claim will save money and provide instant relief to millions of uninsured Americans.
"We call it Let Us Help Us, and we think it will revolutionize the way we seek health care in this country," Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO), one of the initiative's authors, told reports at a press conference today. "It embraces the essence of the free market system, without the oppressive hand of government regulation. No socialism! And the beauty is: anyone can be a part of it. Anyone can submit an ailment to be bid on."

STEVE BANTA
As we prepare for tomorrow's grand opening of the Green Line, I want to thank everyone on the Operations team who has worked diligently to make sure that this new line will open successfully and can be integrated into our overall service.
After two weeks of fine tuning the operating plans and service delivery methods we are more comfortable with our new operating environment. It has been a collaborative effort with our partners in capital projects, and I want to thank them for their work.
While it comes a day before we reduce service on many of our bus lines, it is important to remember that tomorrow is an opportunity for us to put our best feet forward and demonstrate to potential new riders why so many people chose TriMet buses and trains for their commute. Whether you are working on the front line, in facilities, transportation, maintenance of way, or behind the scenes you all play a critical role in making our service a success.
More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the celebrations tomorrow. Some of them may be new to riding TriMet service. Please take the time to provide a smile and a welcome to riders, and help make their experience one that they will want to repeat.
Thank you again for your hard work and commitment to your customers. Well done!

KHRIS ALEXANDER SAYS ENOUGHS ENOUGH!
TRIMET RESPONDS TO THE KHRIS ALEXANDER INCIDENT
A TriMet employee posted the passing of a long-time operator, which is someone... Read More’s right to do. Other operators expressed concerns to the operator’s supervisor because they were upset to learn of the passing in such a manner. We typically inform the supervisors of a passing, who then communicate directly to employees who worked with the individual, we send in grief counselors, etc. We handle these kinds of situations very sensitively. The supervisor approached the operator just to inform that others were impacted by the post. We did not ask to have the post taken down, nor would we have the right to ask him to do so in this situation. We just wanted to alert the operator that other people were emotionally upset.
KHRIS:
This is crap!

Khris who would care that we posted something about the death of a friend? None of us would have known and went to work and seen her picture up and have to deal with it while driving a bus. I think you did them a favor. So we are no longer to talk about work here?

WAIT A MINUTE!
What does this have to do with TRIMET?
Did it happen or not?
Your not in personnel!
Your not a manger!... Read More
You didn't sign any sort of confidentiality agreement!
If a sister operator died we all want to know!
I think they are over their parameters on this one, I'll remove all my posts regarding this until it plays out.
They can "ask" you to remove it, but they can't "force" you under threat of discipline.
THIS IS NOT A TRIMET ISSUE!
BTW- I have no communications regarding this from the management, and they are always good about letting me know when there is a problem on my blog.

ERIK HALSTEAD BLASTS FRED AT OREGONIAN BLOG
"Each time we add, it makes the whole of the system -- not just the rail side, but the bus side of it -- work better and better."
This is the biggest load of crap I've heard come out of Fred Hansen's mouth.
Tell me how 12 years of disinvestment in the bus system has made the bus system "better and better"...tell me how an increasingly unreliable, aging bus fleet is "better and better"...tell me how overcrowded buses (because TriMet won't purchase high capacity buses) or fewer, less frequent buses (thanks to the elimination of "frequent service") will make the bus system "better and better". Tell me how failing to follow its own guidelines for bus stop improvements makes the bus system "better and better". All Hansen knows is how to spend all of TriMet's money on the MAX system, and he's proven his anti-bus attitude each and every day when orders for new buses get cut back; when bus maintenance gets cut back; when bus service gets cut back - all the while MAX has no problem expanding; all the while TriMet can give free money away to the City of Portland (to subsidize the Streetcar) and to ODOT (to install lights on the I-205 bike path), and continue the utter failure known as WES.
Better and better...maybe if Hansen rode a bus. Oh, wait, I have repeatedly asked him to join me for a bus ride - and each time he declines. Hmmm, I wonder why. Because he doesn't want to see what I see every day - a bus system that is FAILING and that even Cuba can do better at.
