This is kind of one of those unique Portland/Oregon situations where the bike line is in road a bit too much.
The only way to really prevent this is to segment bike lanes more, and prevent further high speed suburban roads like this. One problem though, where do we get the billions it would take to fix all the roads?
Really sad situation. :(
