WHY I HATE THE MAX!

You know...

I've seen this mess happen, and the big problem isn't so much that a train goes out of service (it is a problem, but...) but how ridiculous it is to have replacement service back that train up. It usually takes an hour, or just no extra train is brought into service. It's disgusting really.

It all boils down to either A: bad operational management or B: bad funding of operational management.

I'd lean more toward the later than the first, but both are probably partly to blame. A replacement train should ALWAYS be brought into service immediately when this happens. If that can't be done they don't need to be running the service.

In addition to that... why can't they get the LRV limit running. FRA law/rule/regulation states 3 minute headways are necessary. So that means between the red line and blue line they should be able to run about every 4-5 minutes at least during rush hours (4pm-6 or 7pm) to meet demand. There has been slight increases but I haven't seen this limit achieved. Beyond that they'd need to expand platforms and run longer trains.

ARGH. Either way, solutions need to be had. Either run more trains or start finding ways to expand service. At least on the west side rush hour... I'm not sure how the east side rush hour will pan out with the green line being added. APTA pointed out that with the current downtown configuration with east side trains coming in red, blue, yellow, and green, that will limit the west side to only blue and red. The west side of course, has one of the highest potentials currently for ridership growth and is being functionally limited by the downtown expansion...

...I think I just made my head hurt more.

...I'm going to get a beer. :|
